SwRI Fitness & Wellness Facebook Page
The SwRI Fitness & Wellness page is available to employees and retirees as an extension of the SwRI Health Improvement Program (HIP). It is designed to engage our work community and enhance everyone's wellness journey. It’s been GREAT to see so many of you joining our LIVE workouts. We continue to support each other, even if virtually. If you are not able to participate during the live session, the videos are accessible any time on demand. In addition to workouts, check out our posts focused on physical, emotional wellness, delicious recipes, relaxation tips and different ways to keep you socially connected while social distancing. Share in the experience and join our private Facebook group, SwRI Fitness & Wellness. Caring for You, our Greatest Strength!
Fitness Center Closed Until Further Notice
In light of the evolving events, we have decided to close the SwRI Fitness Center complex until further notice beginning Friday, March 20, 2020, (including outdoor fields, track and RRA store). Although our doors may close, we are available to assist you virtually. Feel free to reach out via email for personal workouts you may do on your own. We want to assure you that as soon as our facility re-opens we will be ready to greet you with a grand “homecoming.” Until then, be safe, stay healthy, keep fitness a priority, and reach out to us for any assistance you may need.
Note from Fitness Center Staff
We hope that this message finds you doing well, and you’ve been trying to stay active throughout the week. As we care about your health and fitness needs, we have designed a Home Workout routine with 6 full body workouts and 5 core routines that give you several options and require no equipment. There are two versions of the file. One with videos to demonstrate the exercises and one with no external links.
Keep in mind these routines are guidelines, so make them your own. Use modifications by replacing a lower body exercise with an upper body exercise, reducing/increasing repetitions or rounds as needed.
Feel free to email us at firstname.lastname@example.org for inquires. Stay connected.

SwRI’s 2021 R&D 100 Award Winners
SwRI picked up a record three 2021 R&D 100 Awards, representing the top 100 innovations of the year, and we are celebrating our winners. Connected and automated vehicle technology allows vehicles to “talk” to each other and surrounding infrastructure, providing efficient and environmentally-friendly navigation for drivers. SwRI’s revolutionary Catalyzed Diesel Exhaust Fluid is a unique solution that lowers fuel costs and emissions simultaneously, eliminating problematic deposits in the process. Machine learning tool Floodlight identifies chemicals in products we consume and use every day, breaking down an overload of data for chemists. R&D World presents the R&D 100 Awards each year. Since 1971, SwRI has won a total of 50 R&D 100 Awards.
Listen now SwRI engineers Sankar Rengarajan, Cary Henry, and Computer Scientist Michael Hartnett discuss the winning technologies and what makes them top innovations of 2021.

NEW TO PODCASTS? HERE’S HOW TO LISTEN
A podcast is essentially a radio show on the internet that you can listen to from almost anywhere. There are two options to listen: Through a website (aka streaming) or by downloading the podcast via an app so you can listen anytime, even without an internet connection.
To download and subscribe: Get the podcast delivered to your phone or tablet each month using an app. For iPhones and iPads, use the Podcasts app already installed on your device or download the app from the App Store. In the Podcasts app, search Technology Today. For Android phones and tablets, use Google Podcasts and search Technology Today. You can also find the podcast on iTunes, Stitcher, and Spotify. Don’t forget to hit the Subscribe button so you never miss a new episode. Your device may need to be on your cellular provider's network, rather than the SwRI network, to subscribe and download.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) season has kicked off, with 23 locations across San Antonio. Last year this program returned more than $70 million dollars to many of our friends and neighbors in San Antonio. VITA is available free of charge for individuals and households that earned up to $55,000 in total income last year. VITA volunteers electronically file basic federal income tax returns for families and individuals.
This program is sponsored by the City of San Antonio, United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County, and Catholic Charities. For more information or to find a nearby VITA site and its business hours, tax filers can go online to www.vitasa.org or call the United Way Helpline at 2-1-1.

Love to Read? Interested in joining a book group? Share your thoughts with the Library!
The Slick Reads Book Club meets the third Tuesday of every month in the Library Reading Room from noon – 1:00 pm. If you’d like to join in the fun, or would like more information about this program, please contact the Library at 210 522 2125 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Slick Book Exchange
Next time you’re on campus, stop by the Thomas Baker Slick Memorial Library and visit the ‘Slick Book Exchange’ located in the Library Reading Room.
Here’s how it works: come by the library anytime Monday–Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., drop off your gently used books and exchange them for the same number of books that are new-to-you. That’s all—it’s a one-for-one swap and there’s no need to check these books out or return them unless you want to swap again.
Help build the book exchange collection by bringing in your gently used fiction, non-fiction and technical books and make sure to visit the exchange often as the selection will change frequently. For more information or questions, please contact the Library at 210 522 2125 or email@example.com.
